The concerto Claroscuro en Flor was commissioned by the American Harp Society and San José Chamber Orchestra and received its premiere in 2013 under the baton of Barbara Day Turner with Anna Maria Mendieta on harp. It's a traditional 3 movement structure, with the last movement themes being transformations of themes from the first two movements.

The second movement, heard below in a chamber version, is a set of variations on a Soneto for vihuela written by the Renaissance master Enriquez de Valderrábano in the 16th century.
